The Celtics and the Lakers faced off in the NBA Finals for the third consecutive year with the series going seven games.  The Celtics ultimately prevailed, capturing their fourth consecutive NBA championship. In addition to the Celtics and Lakers, other notable teams during the regular season included the Philadelphia Warriors, led by Wilt Chamberlain, who had an historic individual season, averaging 50.4 points per game, and the St. Louis Hawks, who had a strong roster featuring Bob Pettit. Chamberlain set several records during the 1961-1962 season, including the most points scored in a single game, tallying 100 points in a game against the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962.
