The 1983-1984 NBA season saw the Boston Celtics (62-20) clinch the championship by defeating the Los Angeles Lakers (54-28) in seven games in the Finals. The Eastern Conference was dominated by the Celtics who beat the Milwaukee Bucks (50-32) four games to one in the Eastern Conference Finals, while the Western Conference Finals saw the Lakers beat a surprising Phoenix Suns (41-41) team four games to two. Boston’s Larry Bird won the MVP award. Adrian Dantley led the league in scoring with an average of 30.6 points per game. Houston’s Ralph Sampson took home Rookie of the Year honors helping the team win 15 more games in 1984 (29 compared to 14 in 1983).
